Who I am and what motivates me
My name is Alina, I am a doctor and mother of a young daughter. I love to spend my free time outside, in nature or in a café, and in the kitchen. There I love experimenting with fresh and wholesome ingredients to create delicious, healthy and uncomplicated dishes. I believe that getting enough exercise and eating well are the two most important foundations for health. Since I like to be cosy and appreciate the concept of „hygge“ (Danish, cosiness, security) for a balanced lifestyle, feel-good recipes and topics will also be discussed here.
Which diet is the best from my point of view
Here my answer is quite clear: a diet that includes as little processed and as much fresh food as possible. I myself am neither vegetarian nor vegan, but I eat meat only on rare occasions and try to eat as little animal protein as possible. At the same time, I don’t want to compromise on enjoyment and follow the mottoes „quantity makes the poison“ and „Don’t eat anything your grandmother wouldn’t recognise as food.“ So the bulk of my diet consists of vegetables and fruit, whole grains and healthy fats (and yes, butter and cream too). However, I also love good coffee, pastries and desserts- and if they are made from natural ingredients, even more :).
Why a healthy lifestyle is the most important basis for disease prevention
A large proportion of patients who come to the doctor’s office or hospital these days suffer from so-called „lifestyle diseases“, i.e. lifestyle-related illnesses. These include high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, type 2 diabetes mellitus, tooth decay, cancers such as colon and lung cancer, and some allergies. (Note: of course, the cancers mentioned can also develop without the presence of risk factors. However, this is less common).
The main causes are lack of exercise, too much processed sugary food, tobacco and alcohol consumption and stress. Please also read my article on the immune system.
What to expect on my blog
I started this blog to share tips on health maintenance and promotion, healthy eating and general wellbeing. So, as a doctor, my main aim here is to be preventative. The aim is not to replace visits to the doctor, but to make them less frequent.
